Investing in a Life of Travel and Adventure
For a long time, we treated travel like a reward.
And while we were grateful for every chance we got to go somewhere new, it always felt temporary. Like we were escaping real life for a bit, then rushing back to it.
At some point, we realized we didn’t want travel to be an escape anymore.
We wanted it play a big part in the way we live.
That shift in thinking — along with real estate projects, living in unconventional situations, learning as we went, and saying “yes” to opportunities that didn’t fit the normal script — is what became Wanderlust Investing.
What “Wanderlust” Really Means to Us
Wanderlust isn’t about constant motion or luxury travel.
It’s about:
- Curiosity
- Freedom
- Flexibility
- Being open to new places, ideas, and ways of living
Sometimes that looks like travel.
Sometimes it looks like staying put longer than expected.
Sometimes it looks like buying a fixer-upper, living in it, and learning way more than you planned.
At its core, wanderlust is a mindset — a willingness to design life differently.
Investing Beyond Just Money
When most people hear “investing,” they think about money first.
But Wanderlust Investing is broader than that.
It’s about investing:
- Time
- Energy
- Skills
- Effort
- Creativity
- Patience
Sometimes that investment is financial. Sometimes it’s emotional. Quite often it’s down right uncomfortable.
Real estate has been a big part of our journey because it’s tangible and flexible — but it’s not the only thing. Travel decisions, lifestyle choices, learning how to live with less (or differently), and being willing to pivot all count too.
If it supports a life of freedom, curiosity, and adventure — it qualifies.
Why Real Estate Still Matters Here
Real estate became one of our main tools because it can support long-term flexibility when done thoughtfully.
Fixer-uppers. Rentals. Living in properties while working on them. Learning by doing. Doing what you can, making mistakes and adjusting.
It hasn’t always been smooth or easy, but it’s been real — and it’s allowed us to create options instead of being locked into one version of life.
Real estate isn’t passive at first. It’s work. But over time, it can become a foundation that can make it easier to satisfy your wanderlust.
What Wanderlust Investing Is (and Isn’t)
This isn’t about:
- Get-rich-quick promises
- Flashy results
- Hustle culture
- Perfect plans
Wanderlust Investing is about:
- Building a life that supports movement and curiosity
- Making intentional choices instead of default ones
- Using investing — in all forms — as a tool, not a trap
- Accepting that the path won’t be linear
Sometimes you invest money.
Sometimes you invest sweat and time.
Sometimes you invest patience while things unfold.
For us, that’s shown up in a lot of different ways — from real estate projects and fixer-uppers, to camping out of a built-out Toyota Prius, and later traveling with a teardrop camper.
Choices like that aren’t about cutting corners — they’re about choosing experiences, mobility, and freedom while building toward something longer-term.
All of it counts.
